A technology accelerator for Canadian companies

In a context marked by the acceleration of industrial logistics automation and robotization, Deloitte wanted to have a site where it could showcase different technologies that help Canadian companies strengthen their competitiveness.

Deloitte's Montreal Intelligent Factory is a technology showcase that helps visitors visualize how a fully automated factory and warehouse can increase the efficiency of their operations. In addition to the technology demonstration area, the Smart Factory includes a multi-purpose space where clients and Deloitte employees can attend meetings, presentations, discussions, workshops and more.

Drawing on proven expertise to meet tight deadlines

Completed in just five months, the smart factory called on GKC's expertise in industrial architecture and office design to recreate, on a smaller scale, the factories and distribution centres for which it is renowned. For this atypical project, the team merged industrial and commercial architecture to create an environment that combines functionality, versatility and aesthetics. Its contemporary design, combined with elements inspired by the aeronautical industry, makes it an innovative and attractive work and collaboration space for Deloitte's employees and clients.

Innovation as the guiding principle

Design that is both inspired and inspiring

With its high ceilings, the overhang above the lounge bar that evokes the shape of an aircraft turbine, and the office opening reminiscent of a porthole, the project team came up with a design inspired by airport hangars - a direct allusion to the growth to which companies embarking on the path of logistics transformation can aspire. The carefully selected materials, mainly wood and concrete, were chosen for their noble and durable aspect, as well as for their ability to blend harmoniously with the dynamism and functional pragmatism of the aeronautical theme.

Flexible, Modular Spaces

The interior layout, designed by GKC, was created with flexibility and adaptability in mind. Open zones without fixed partitions encourage collaboration and communication, while versatile workspaces cater to a variety of needs. These include a large meeting room that seats up to 50, smaller pods for two to four people, and private areas for more focused or confidential discussions.

Lighting That Sets the Tone

Lighting was thoughtfully selected to support different moods and uses. Industrial-style fixtures illuminate the common areas, while workstations feature adjustable individual lights for comfort and focus. A third level of lighting, sometimes built directly into the furniture, creates intimate or festive atmospheres for events and gatherings.
